Haiti Fund appoints Indiana couple to lead development project
NEW BERN, N.C. – Haiti Fund Inc. has appointed Rick and Kathy Land to direct its Comprehensive Development Project (CODEP) in the mountainous region south of Léogâne, Haiti.
The Lands succeed Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) mission workers Rodney and Sharyn Babe, who will continue mission service at the Episcopal University of Haiti in Port au Prince, where they will teach agriculture and sustainable development.
Haiti Fund, Inc. works closely with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti (EEH) on development projects. Haiti Fund, Inc. and the PC(USA) jointly announced the personnel moves on Oct. 5.
The Lands, from Pittsboro, Ind., near Indianapolis, worked in Haiti from 1990 to 2000, serving in a non-denominational mission project in Christianville, not far from Léogâne. Rick and Kathy are excited about their return. They worked with the Babes during their previous experience in Haiti.
In their new assignment the Lands will work with local residents, primarily community volunteer groups, to facilitate long-term agricultural development, health, and education programs.
The Babes bring to their teaching duties 15 years of development work in Haiti. They recently spent the past year in the United States engaged in postgraduate study at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro.
PC(USA) mission workers left Haiti last year because of civil unrest but returned in April of 2006 after the violence subsided.
Please join Haiti Fund, PCUSA, and EEH in welcoming the Babes and the Lands to their new assignments in Haiti and to the work of God’s people in Haiti.
